June it is! Only two days left of work for Dan and I. It's so hard to believe. We are both so tired from long days of work and long nights of packing and preparing to move. We have been operating on about 4 hours of sleep each night for the past couple weeks. It seems like we are almost there but something tells me that even when we think we are done packing, cleaning, fixing, etc.. there will still be more.
Since my last post we have accomplished a lot! We finally made it to San Francisco to get our Visa's for travel to Ecuador. We had to go to the San Francisco consulate because that is the one designated for Washington State. We flew there for a quick trip. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, stayed the night and got to the consulate at 9:00 a.m. sharp Monday morning. It still took until 12:30 for our Visa's to be ready because the Consulate General was out at a meeting. Regardless, we got the Visa's that's all that mattered.
We have also had our last garage sale. The weather was terrible... stormy, with thunder and lightening! We made some money and sold some things - but not like we had hoped. We were amazed that the sale we had in March was sunny and we sold so much more - how's that? Anyone in their right mind would think that June weather should be nicer than March... nope. In the Pacific NW you never know what to expect. When the sale was over we boxed everything up and headed straight to the homeless shelter and donated everything left over. It's always a great feeling knowing that someone can use the things we no longer need.
We have now sold everything in our house pretty much - except a few furniture items and we have boxed up everything else and already taken to storage. The house is now 98% empty and we are sleeping on the kitchen floor on air mattresses. Pretty funny actually. Only one more night of that though. We will stay with my sister-in-law Thursday and Friday night before we fly to Florida. Oh yeah, Florida. We are headed to Florida for a little bit of relaxation and a lot of sleep - in the sunshine! We will be heading to Arizona, Nevada and Colorado from Florida and plan to return to Washington for about 10 days prior to our ultimate departure to Ecuador on July 23rd.
It's hard to believe that it's almost here! We are very excited (yet very tired too). We have even sold both of our cars. Yes, that's right, both of them. We figured it was meant to be. Both cars sold after listing them for sale for only a week each. No, we didn't give them away... the buyers just really wanted our cars I guess. We have a rental for now. It's nice knowing those big items are sold.
I
I've been in touch with some of the staff at our school in Ecuador and they all seem so nice. There is another new teacher from Texas that will be arriving the same time we do. Her and her husband were able to make a trip over Spring Break to Ecuador to check it out. She said she was very happy she went and pleased at what they saw there. She said everyone was very welcoming, which is great to hear.
Well, better close for now. I plan on posting more often once we arrive in Guayaquil and settle in, so check back soon!
